SBU thwarted social network-based provocations of Russian intelligence services (video)
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine discovered and stopped attempts of Russian intelligence agencies to initiate provocations on the May holidays through the use of forbidden social networks.
In March and April, SBU operatives stopped the activity of a group of individuals that included two Kyiv residents and three residents of the Odesa region. The attackers, on the instructions of Russia’s special services, administered anti-Ukrainian communities in the “VKontakte” and “Odnoklassniki” social networks.
Law enforcers documented that administrators had organized search and recruitment of executors for May Day provocations in the south-eastern regions of the country. On the task of, and being funded by, the Russian supervisors, the executors had to aggressively distribute through the controlled groups in social networks the messages aimed at stirring up ethnic hostility and the appeals to organizing mass protests.
The actions of the Security Service of Ukraine helped to prevent potential mass disorders aimed at discrediting of our country on the international arena as a democratic and European state.
