SBU officers block large-scale human trafficking of immigrants to EU countries

Officers of the SBU CI Department and the SBU Sumy Regional Office exposed members of the international organized group who illegally transported immigrants from the countries of the Middle East and Central Asia to the countries of the European Union.

It was established that the group included citizens of Ukraine, European and Asian countries, who assisted the interested foreigners in illegally entering the European Union. They were looking for the potential “clients” both among the foreigners staying in Ukraine and among the residents of countries with high-level terrorist threat.

The dealers forged visas to the countries that required flight change at the EU-based airports. Once at the airport, the illegal migrants applied to the authorities of the country to obtain a refugee status.

According to the SBU information, the offenders managed to send dozens of people to EU countries. The dealers received up to USD 1,500 per migrant for their “service”.

The SBU operatives detained the organizer of the channel, the native of one of the Middle East states who received the Ukrainian citizenship, as well as his accomplice, on transferring of the subsequent sets of forged documents in Kyiv.

During the authorized searches of the offenders’ residences, the law enforcers seized the considerable amount of forged documents and the computer equipment with relevant software.

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the organizer of the scheme in the framework of criminal proceeding initiated by the SBU on Part 3 Article 332 and Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided.

The complex of the procedural measures (compliant to International Law and local legalisation) on bringing to the criminal responsibility all persons, including foreign citizens, involved in human trafficking is being implemented.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
