Former DNR militant takes part in SBU Program “Waiting for You at Home” in Odesa region
In the framework of the SBU Program “Waiting for You at Home” a former militant of a so-called DNR rebel group voluntarily laid down arms and returned to peaceful life.
In summer 2014, the citizen of Odesa moved to the temporarily annexed territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to take part in a special military training in the base of a Russian Naval Infantry Brigade. After the training, he joined an illegal armed formation of the so-called DNR and served at checkpoints.
The man did not take part in military actions and repressions against local population. In a few months, he assured himself of the chaos and lawlessness of the militants and left the illegal armed formation. Being afraid of criminal responsibility, he hid at his relatives in Odesa region.
Willing to return to peaceful life, the former militant decided to voluntarily contact the SBU and take part in its Program “Waiting for You at Home”.
In the framework of the criminal case launched under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the SBU officers check the evidence of the former militant. Now he is at home and helps the investigation.
If the pretrial investigation does not reveal any grave crimes in his actions, the man can be released from criminal responsibility.
