SBU seizes 207 firearms, 159 kg of explosives and 45,000 ammo

Since the beginning of 2020, the Security Service of Ukraine seized 207 firearms, 159 kg of explosives and over 45,000 rounds, grenades and shells from the illegal trafficking.

The most common arms include the pistols and revolvers, rocket launchers, machine guns and assault rifles. At different times, SBU officers discovered the largest number of weapons and means of destruction in caches in the JFO area, in particular, in Novoaydar, Starobilsk and Sloviansk districts.

The law enforcement also established that often these weapons are taken out from Donetsk and Luhansk regions to other regions. Additionally, several such caches were found outside the JFO areas, especially in Volyn and Odesa regions. For example, in March two people, illegally taking an arsenal of rounds and arms to Kyiv region, were detained at a checkpoint on the "Lysychansk-Bakhmut" highway.

Moreover, since the beginning of the year, the SBU blocked activities of four clandestine workshops manufacturing assault weapons. Thus, the Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the National Police of Ukraine in Kyiv city conducted searches at a Kyivan place of residence who organized an underground workshop. The offender was involved in illegal manufacturing and restoration of firearms for further sale. As a result, 2 handicraft submachine guns, 170 ammo and 0,3 kg of gunpowder were found and seized during searches.

Separately, a channel for foreign-made parts and components sale from abroad were uncovered and stopped as well. Consequently, the law enforcement officers detained the person involved in the above-mentioned unlawful activities.

SBU materials help to initiate 58 criminal proceedings, including those initiated by the National Police under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In general, the arsenal seized is enough to arm two military troops.
