SBU stops sale of counterfeit cigarettes from separatist-held territories worth over USD 74,000 (video)
The Security Service of Ukraine in Zaporizzhya exposed a group engaged in smuggling of counterfeited excise Russia-produced products from temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The average monthly shadow turnover was over UAH 2,000,000 (USD 74,000).
Allegedly, four residents of Zaporizzhya and Melitopol cities organized underground business scheme. The suspects smuggled counterfeit tobacco products into the region under the guise of brands of well-known foreign brands. They sold illegally transported goods in large batches to wholesale customers, as well as sold them through local outlets.
During searches at warehouses, garages and apartments of members of the group, law enforcement officers seized a "monthly delivery" of 80,000 packs of counterfeit cigarettes totaling more than UAH 2,000,000 (USD 74,000). They also found USD 8,000, UAH 74,000 (USD 2,7000), bank cards and records with data on buyers and logistics of the goods.
The issue of serving the suspects notices of suspicion is being solved.
The investigation is ongoing within the framework of criminal proceeding under Part 1 Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
