                   Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)










Vasyl Hrytsak was born January 14, 1967, in the village of Bushcha, Rivne region, Ukraine. In 1992, he graduated from the Lesia Ukrainka Lutsk State Pedagogical Institute. In 1993 and 1997, he studied at the Institute for the SBU Personnel Training, 1998 and 2006 – at the SBU National Academy.

From 1991 to 1999, he held different positions within the SBU Regional Offices, 1999-2005 - senior positions within the SBU Department of National Statehood Protection and Fight against Terrorism. From 2005 to 2006, Vasyl Hrytsak was the Chief of the SBU Office in Kyiv region, 2006-2008 - Chief of the SBU Office in Kyiv, 2008-2009 - Chief of the SBU Main Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region. From 2009 to 2010, he held the office of the Deputy Head; First Deputy Head – Chief of the SBU Main Directorate on Fight against Corruption and Organized Crime. July 2014, he became the First Deputy Head – Chief of the Counterterrorist Center under the SBU. June 2015 – he served as the SBU Acting Head. On July 2, 2015, Vasyl Hrytsak was appointed as the SBU Head.

Vasyl Hrytsak has the following awards: Order of Merit (Ukraine), 3rd class (2002), Order of Merit (Ukraine), 2nd class (2007), Order of Merit (Ukraine), 1st class (2009), Certificate of Honor (Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine).
